A small milk plant was established. Initially, we started by selling milk in cans directly to nearby homes and shops.
Following a friend’s advice, our founder Mr. Maruthachalam began branding the product. He personally marketed Cowma Milk, approaching distributors and retail stores, laying the foundation for a trusted brand.
The Palakkad market grew steadily, and we expanded operations into Mannarkkad, Pollachi, and Tirupur, gaining loyal customers in new regions.
We set up a larger processing unit with improved cold chain facilities to meet growing demand.
We ventured into the entertainment space with the inauguration of our first cinema theatre.
A major chilling unit was established in Mandrampalayam, Coimbatore, significantly enhancing our capacity and reach.
We officially entered the Coimbatore and Thrissur markets, strengthening our presence in Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
Launched our laundry unit, diversifying into home services and contributing to employment in the region.
Introduced Sambharam (spiced buttermilk) as a summer drink—our first step into ready-to-drink traditional products.
In an act of compassion and community support, Cowma introduced a baby milk assistance program. If there were babies in need of cow’s milk, our milkmen were asked to supply it at no cost to the family—the company covered the expenses, ensuring no child went without nourishment.
We launched a compensation program for farmers. If a cow belonging to one of our milk suppliers died for any reason, the company provided financial support, reaffirming our commitment to the people and animals at the heart of our business.
Operations were further streamlined and expanded, focusing on modernization, cold chain logistics, and product diversification—laying the groundwork for the strong, tech-enabled supply network we rely on today.
What began in 1993 by Mr.Maruthachalam as a modest local milk supply operation in Palakkad—with just 300 litres sold per day—has grown into one of the region’s most respected and trusted dairy brands. Built on dedication, relationships, and a deep commitment to quality, we now proudly distribute over 55,000 litres of milk daily, serving families across multiple cities and towns in Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
